To perform a high-precision estimation about a reaction amount of low temperature oxidation reaction generated in an engine combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of an estimated heat generation rate at a later stage of a compression stroke and during a period before ignition is calculated as a first estimated reaction amount, a difference between an estimated heat generation rate at a first crank angle set according to an engine speed and an estimated heat generation rate set according to the engine speed and at a second crank angle at a more delayed angle side than the first crank angle is calculated as a second estimated reaction amount. When the first estimated reaction amount is equal to or more than a predetermined reaction amount, a reaction amount of a low temperature oxidation reaction is estimated in reference to the first estimated reaction amount and in turn when the first estimated reaction amount is less than the predetermined reaction amount, a reaction amount of the low temperature oxidation reaction is estimated in reference to the second estimated reaction amount.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
