To provide a sewing needle which can form a stable loop, which does little damage on a needle thread and which can be manufactured easily.SOLUTION: A sewing needle 10 includes a shank part 11 mounted on a sewing machine, and a needle stem part 12 provided further on the tip side than the shank part 11. At the needle stem part 12, a thread hole 13 is formed in a penetrating manner, and a long groove 14 is formed for guiding a thread in the direction of the shank part 11 from the position of the thread hole 13, and in the middle part of the long groove 14, a suppression part 16 is provided for suppressing the movement of a needle thread 21.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
