To suppress an increase in size of an active buffer pulse tube refrigerator comprising a plurality of cold heads.SOLUTION: A pulse tube refrigerator 10 comprises a plurality of cold heads 14. Each of the cold heads 14 comprises a pulse tube 16, a regenerator 18, a main pressure switching valve 24a for alternately connecting a compressor discharge port 12a and a compressor suction port 12b to a high-temperature end of the regenerator 18, and an auxiliary pressure switching valve 24b connected to a high-temperature end of the pulse tube 16. The pulse tube refrigerator 10 comprises a first buffer volume B1 connected to the high-temperature end of the pulse tube 16 of each of the cold heads 14 via the auxiliary pressure switching valve 24b and shared as a first pressure source by the plurality of cold heads 14, and a second buffer volume B2 connected to the high-temperature end of the pulse tube 16 of each of the cold heads 14 via the auxiliary pressure switching valve 24b and shared as a second pressure source by the plurality of cold heads 14.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
