To prevent an excessive load from being applied to a horizontal axis windmill in the case of storm.SOLUTION: A control device for a horizontal axis windmill is configured to generate power by rotating a rotor including multiple blades. The control device for the horizontal axis windmill comprises a control part which controls a pitch of the blades. The control part has a windmill stop mode for holding a pitch angle of the blades in a windmill stopped state in the case where a wind velocity to the windmill exceeds a predetermined wind velocity. In the case where the pitch angle is deviated from a holding angle in any blade during the windmill stop mode, regarding a pitch of the other blade that is different from that of the blade, the pitch angle of the other blade is adjusted to an angle which is different from the holding angle, in such a manner that torque is generated in a direction reverse to a direction of rotor rotation by torque of the blade deviated from the holding angle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
