To provide data which can be obtained timely for ALI assessment.SOLUTION: A patient 8 is monitored through a monitor 10 with respect to symptoms of acute lung injury(ALI) etc., through operations comprising: receiving values of a plurality of physiological parameters of the patient; calculating an ALI index value by a computer based at least upon the received values of the plurality of physiological parameters of the patient; and displaying a representation of the ALI index value calculated by the computer on a display 14. The computer calculation operation may use various inference algorithms learnt with a learning set having reference patients to discriminate between a reference patient who has ALI and a reference patient who does not have ALI, or may use two, or three or more associated inference algorithms. When patients of ICU are monitored, graphical representations of respective patients who have representations of identifications of the patients and ALI index values of the patients may be simultaneously displayed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
