To provide a method for operating a microorganism power generation device, maintaining power generation high over the long term by suppressing the growth of methanogens in an anode chamber.SOLUTION: A microorganism power generation device includes: an anode chamber 4 including an anode 6 and holding a liquid containing microorganism and electron donors; and a cathode chamber 3 separated from the anode chamber 4 with an ion permeable non-conductive membrane 2 interposed therebetween. Organic matter-containing raw water is supplied in the anode chamber 4 and a fluid containing electron donors is supplied in the cathode chamber 3 so that power is generated. In the microorganism power generation device, disinfecting agents are intermittently added into the anode chamber 4, and the inside of the anode chamber 4 is intermittently aerated by inert gas from an aeration pipe 17.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
