To provide a firmware updating method of an embedded device capable of changing firmware update processing in an embedded device having nothing but what is stored in a non-rewritable manner in a non-volatile memory as a firmware update program.SOLUTION: A firmware updating method of an embedded device provided with a storage unit having a first area in which rewritable firmware is stored and a second area in which a non-rewritable invariant boot program for activating or updating the firmware is stored, and a processing unit for executing a program stored in the storage unit, includes a first step of writing a variable boot program in the first area by the invariant boot program and a second step of writing firmware in the first area by the variable boot program.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
