A method for detecting an LED light source in a series of image frames for an environment is provided. The method includes selecting one frame portion of interest in a series of image frames and determining a variation in one frame portion of interest using the series of image frames. Further, the method includes determining that one frame portion of interest is a candidate indicating an LED light source if the frequency of variation is within a predetermined frequency range.
