To surely bring a fetal heart to the vicinity of a center axis of an observation beam, in work for attaching a probe.SOLUTION: When manually groping a fetal heart in order to attach a probe thereto, the groping is performed in a state that an observation beam is thinly throttled around a center axis (as shown in (2') of Fig. 2), and when the probe is attached to a position of the fetal heart after the fetal heart is found, and monitoring is transited to a state that the fetal heart can be automatically and continuously observed while leaving the attachment as it is on and after the attachment, the beam is expanded wide (as shown in (3') of Fig. 2), and transited to an operation state that slight displacement is acceptable.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
