To provide a crater end position detection method and a detection device for a continuously casting slab capable of detecting a crater end position at high precision and further excellent in durability and economical efficiency, and to contribute to the improvement of central segregation.SOLUTION: A plurality of pairs of pinch rolls 5 are arranged before the cutting position of a continuously casting slab. One of the pinch rolls 5 is used as a disk roll 5a which is not brought into contact with the edge parts in the width direction of the slab, the other is used as an ordinary roll 5b which is brought into contact with the whole width of the slab, while rolling down the central part of the slab by the disk roll 5a, the draft and/or draft force are/is measured, and a crater end position is specified by the relation between the measured draft and draft force.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
