To provide a simple underwater probe device and an underwater probe method capable of carrying out underwater probe at high accuracy, securing sufficient time for underwater probe, and capable of carrying out underwater probe even under a severe marine phenomenon condition.SOLUTION: An underwater probe device includes: a travelling body 10 connected to a mother ship through a cable and travelling underwater; a measuring body 20 for carrying out probe underwater; an adjusting mechanism 30 provided on the travelling body 10; a connection unit 40 attached to an outer surface of the travelling body 10 and connected to be attachable/detachable with the measuring body 20; and a towage rope 50 for connecting the travelling body 10 and the measuring body 20 through the adjusting mechanism 30; and the adjusting mechanism 30 adjusts and effective length of the towage rope 50 extending from the adjusting mechanism 30 toward the measuring body 20 while the towage rope 50 is still connected to the measuring body 20.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
