To automatically adapt dialysate with respect to composition of the dialysate so as to maintain plasma sodium concentration or to add a regular amount of sodium to a patient or to collect it from the patient.SOLUTION: Provided are a device and a method for extra-corporeal blood treatment, especially for blood dialysis, which wash the blood of a patient (1) in dialysate in a dialysis device (4) and measure a variable correlated with blood plasma sodium concentration. Next, composition of the dialysate is adjusted in accordance with the variable measured so that the blood plasma sodium concentration at least when the blood treatment is over has the same value as one when started. In order to measure the variable correlated with the blood plasma sodium concentration, it is possible to perform bypass operation where the dialysate passes the dialysis device (4) and is guided so as to at least partially adopt concentration of the substance whose residual amount on the used dialysate side is dissolved on the blood side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
