The separation device receives known or unknown glycans that are co-injected with three different oligomers of maltooligosaccharide (MOL). The detector measures the separated glycans and the three separated oligomers as intensity peaks that are a function of migration time. The migration times of several other oligomers in MOL are calculated from the migration times of three different oligomers. Glucose unit (GU) values for the separated glycan intensity peaks are calculated by comparing their migration times with the calculated migration times of several other oligomers of MOL. The processor identifies the glycan structure by comparing the calculated GU values of the isolated glycan intensity peaks to a database of GU values for known glycan structures.
