To provide an inclination derivation device and an inclination derivation method that can accurately derive the inclination of an indicator.SOLUTION: An inclination derivation device derives the inclination of a pen-shaped indicator, and the indicator comprises: a first electrode provided at one end in the axial direction; a second electrode provided around the axis; a planar sensor detecting the positions of the first and second electrodes; and a control unit 10. The control unit 10 includes: a first look-up table 15A in which the correspondence between a first input value calculated on the basis of the respective positions of the first and second electrodes and a first correction value θthat is a correction value of the inclination of the axis, when the indicator is inclined from a direction orthogonal to the sensor toward a first direction on the sensor is registered; a second look-up table 15B when the indicator is inclined toward a second direction different from the first direction; an input calculation unit 14 that calculates input values and inputs the input values to the look-up tables; a rotation angle calculation unit 16 that derives the rotation angle φ of the axis; and an inclination direction inclination correction value calculation unit 17 that calculates a correction value θof inclination in the inclination direction from the rotation angle φ and correction value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
