Methods, devices, and systems for transmitting information using unique words (UWs) by discrete Fourier transform spreading orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) are described herein. In an example, a wireless transmit / receive unit (WTRU) may generate a reference sequence. Additionally, the WTRU may generate a DMRS sequence based on the upsampling of the reference sequence. In the example, the DMRS sequence can include multiple repeated sequences. Further, in the example, each repeated sequence can include a head sequence, a reference sequence, and a tail sequence. Also, the UW sequences in the DMRS can include one of the repeated head sequences and one of the repeated tail sequences. In addition, the WTRU may generate a DMRS signal based on waveform operations on the DMRS sequence. The WTRU may then transmit the DMRS signal as a reference signal.
