The present invention proposes to combine spectral image data and non-spectral image data to overcome the limitations of various data acquisition methods. The results from the method are preferably combined as a function of spatial frequency so that spectral image data provides high accuracy at low frequencies and non-spectral image data helps reduce high frequency noise. The present invention allows for various applications in various fields of X-ray imaging, such as improved tissue contrast and tissue characterization.
