A method of heating clothing in a kiln. The kiln wear space includes a plurality of temperature control zones oriented in a first direction and a plurality of temperature control zones oriented in a second direction. The method includes heating the wear space in a first heating stage, a second heating stage, and a third heating stage. The following conditions: (i) In one of the heating stages, the temperature control zone oriented in the first direction is different from the set point temperature of one other temperature control zone oriented in the first direction. And (ii) in one of the heating stages, one temperature control zone oriented in the second direction is a set point of one other temperature control zone oriented in the second direction. At least one of having a set point temperature different from the temperature is satisfied, where the first direction is the vertical direction and the second direction is the horizontal direction.
