PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lift force estimation device for a pantograph, which can be mounted onto a rolling stock, and which can be applied without modifying a various types of pantograph head structures, and which can allow sensors to be arranged in a low voltage environment, and a method thereof, and a lift force compensation method.SOLUTION: A lift force estimation device for a pantograph comprises: a sensor 41 for measuring a height of a pantograph 2 moving while sliding on a trolley line 11; a sensor 43 for detecting a trolley wire supporting point 21; calculation means 47 for calculating a difference in the pantograph height in a pan by subtracting a lowest height from a highest height of the pantograph in the span; rolling stock speed information acquisition means 45. The lift force estimation device for the pantograph further comprises: a data base (lift force estimation table 51) which has been prepared in advance, and which indicates quantitative relationships between the pantograph height difference in the span and the lift force or the like, for the type of the trolley wire, the span length, the type of the pantograph, and the speed of the rolling stock; and estimation means 49 for the lift force applied to the pantograph on the basis of the measured pantograph height difference in the span and the data base.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
