PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film capable of obtaining the bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film which reduces the content of Pb and is excellent in optical characteristics.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film which is represented by the general formula, GdBiRFeO(provided that R is at least one rare earth element selected from La, Ce, Pr and Nd and 0x and 0y) and further contains Pb as impurities, which comprises a crystal growth step of growing the bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film on a non-magnetic garnet substrate by a liquid phase epitaxial growth method, wherein in the crystal growth step, the number of revolutions of the non-magnetic garnet substrate is set at less than 100 rpm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
