PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic leakage flux flaw detector with which it is possible to suppress a dead band without increasing the size, and which has high flaw detection capability.SOLUTION: A magnetic leakage flux flaw detector 100 comprises magnetization means 1 for magnetizing an object P to be inspected for flaw, and detection means 2 for detecting a magnetic leakage flux. The magnetization means includes a plurality of first magnetization coils 12 in which conductors are wound through which a first AC excitation current is applied so as to generate a magnetic field in a first direction (direction X) parallel to the surface of the object to be inspected for flaw, and which are arranged mutually out of position so as to have an overlapping portion along the first direction. The detection means consists of the same number of planar detection coils 2, as the number of first excitation coils, for detecting a magnetic leakage flux in a direction (direction Z) perpendicular to the surface of the object to be inspected for flaw, which are arranged mutually out of position so as to have an overlapping portion along the first direction, the center positions of each detection coil and each of the first excitation coils with respect to the first direction being approximately the same.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
