PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide naphthol red that is excellent in dispersibility and color development and to provide a resin composition, a water-based dispersion and a solvent-based dispersion each colored with the naphthol red.SOLUTION: The naphthol red is produced by surface-treating an azo compound produced from 3-amino-4-methoxybenzanilide and N-(5-chloro-2-methoxyphenyl)-3-hydroxy-2-naphthalene carboxamide with 0.01 to 0.3 wt% of a hydrophilic naphthol derivative or a hydrophilic phenol derivative each represented by the following formulae.SELECTED DRAWING: None
