To reduce useless traveling of an elevator and improve convenience of users by starting the inspection operation from a time when automatic inspection operation starting conditions are satisfied and varying the operation of the inspection operation.SOLUTION: The inspection operation method of an elevator includes: a car position confirmation step ST1 for confirming a car position at a time of receiving an inspection instruction; a terminal floor moving step ST2 for moving a car to a terminal floor of any of an uppermost floor and a lowermost floor according to the car position; a terminal floor limit switch inspecting step ST3 for executing the inspection of a terminal floor limit switch at the terminal floors; a brake inspecting step ST4 for executing the inspection of a brake provided in a hoisting machine at an installation place of the hoisting machine; a limit switch inspecting step ST5 in a hoistway for executing the inspection of a limit switch in the hoistway by traveling a car; a door opening/closing inspecting step ST6 for executing the opening/closing inspection of a door by stopping a car at each floor of from one terminal floor to the other terminal floor; and a rated speed inspecting step ST7 for checking whether a car can be operated at a rated speed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
