PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply evaluating an earthquake resistance of a large number of existing outdoor steel structures in a substation, without performing an earthquake response analysis.SOLUTION: A relational expression between a beam attachment height H and a primary characteristic period T1 is determined in advance through an eigenvalue analysis for a detailed model of a reference steel structure of each voltage class. A stress analysis is performed through an earthquake response analysis to determine a relational expression for T1 between a maximum acceleration response value Ax1 determined from an acceleration response spectrum of an anticipated earthquake wave and a short-term allowable stress degree ratio σ/f of a member determined from a result of the stress analysis. These relational expressions are used to simply evaluate an earthquake resistance of the target outdoor steel structure belonging to a specific voltage class, in the steps of determining the primary characteristic period t1 of the outdoor steel structure from a beam attachment height h, using t1 to predict the maximum acceleration response value ax1 from the acceleration response spectrum of the anticipated earthquake wave, estimating σ/f on the basis of ax1, and determining the outdoor steel structure to be earthquake-proof on the basis of σ/f1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
