PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce abrasion of a cutter bit.SOLUTION: A bit abrasion reduction method for reducing the abrasion of a cutter bit 3 of a shield excavator 2 is characterized in that an internal temperature of the cutter bit 3 is measured and the cutter bit 3 is cooled in accordance with the measured internal temperature. Based on a relation of an abrasion state and the internal temperature of the cutter bit 3, an internal temperature management value is preset and it is preferable to start cooling the cutter bit 3 when the internal temperature exceeds the internal temperature management value. Further, the internal temperature management value is set by presetting a surface temperature management value based on a surface temperature and the abrasion state of the cutter bit 3 and subtracting a temperature difference between the surface temperature and the internal temperature of the cutter bit 3 from the surface temperature management value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
