PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a novel amphoteric ion-containing compound used for medical devices, healthcare devices, and the like; a biocompatible material having excellent protein adsorption inhibiting ability; and a method for safely and simply producing the compound.SOLUTION: An amphoteric ion-containing compound (A) having a tertiary amino group and a carboxyl group is obtained by Michael addition of a secondary amino group of a compound (C) having a secondary amino group and a carboxylic group to an ethylenic unsaturated group of a curable compound (B) having two or more ethylenic unsaturated groups. Specifically, provided is the amphoteric ion-containing compound (A) in which the compound (C) having a secondary amino group and a carboxyl group is pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid.SELECTED DRAWING: None
