PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, in a method for producing an ester compound using a metal catalyst, a method for greatly reducing a practical cost of the metal catalyst by directly reusing a residue of a catalyst system recovered from a reaction mixture without going through a process of metal recovery and catalyst resynthesis.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a reactivated catalyst system comprising a process of reactivating a recovered catalyst system which is recovered after an ester compound is produced by reacting a compound having at least one unsaturated carbon bond in a molecule with a formate ester in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a ruthenium compound, a cobalt compound, and a halide salt. The process includes treating the recovered catalyst system with a peroxide such as sodium percarbonate or with air.SELECTED DRAWING: None
