A steel material produced via powder metallurgy having a matrix that includes (in wt %) C: 3.9-5.0%, Si: 0.3-2.0%, Mn: 0.3-2.0%, P: 0-0.035%. S: 0-0.35%, N: 0-0.12%. Cr: 11.0-15.0%, Mo: 0.5-2.0%, V: 13.5-16.5%. optionally at lease one element from the group of Nb, Ni, Co, and W, wherein the content of each of Ni, Co, and W is at most 1.0% and the content of Nb is at most 2.0% with the remainder being iron and unavoidable impurities. Hard material panicles may be present in contents of up to 30 wt % in the matrix. A solid semi-finished product is formed by a sintering process or an additive process from a sled alloy powder having this composition that undergoes a heal treatment and is then finished to form component.
