This is a method for simultaneously manufacturing two different types of smoking articles using a smoking article making machine. the machine comprises a filter rod feeder, a rod clamping unit for attaching smokable material rods to each longitudinal end of a double length filter rod received from the filter rod feeder, and a cutter for cutting the double length filter rod into two filter rod segments so that each segment, together with the smokable material rod attached to each segment, forms a smoke article. The method comprises supplying the filter rod feeder with filter rods comprising filter fiber. the filter rods being configured so that the two filter rod segments cut from a double length filter rod by the cutter each have a different characteristic. a pack of products from the smoking article industry and an intermediate product produced during the simultaneous manufacture of two different types of smoking article are also disclosed.
