The present invention relates to a toothpaste composition and specifically relates to a toothpaste composition which contains a source of fluoride to enhance remineralization of the teeth. It is desired that the performance of the fluoride source in toothpaste compositions be improved and that the fluoride source provides maximum benefit to the teeth without compromising the other benefits that may be derived from the toothpaste composition. Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a toothpaste composition which retains a desirable level of soluble fluoride upon storage. The present inventors have surprisingly found that toothpaste compositions containing a fluoride source provide increased remineralization of teeth when the composition includes abrasive or abrasive silica based calcium, clay and silicate in 1: 1 layers and clay and silicate. in 2: 1 layers.
