The present invention relates to a portable test meter for use with an electrochemical based analytical test strip in determining an analyte in a body fluid sample including a housing; a strip port connector disposed at least partially within the housing and configured to receive an electrochemical based analytical test strip; a microcontroller arranged in the housing and configured to generate a microcontroller command signal; an electrode bias drive circuit pack disposed in the housing and configured to generate a bias drive signal based on the command signal of the microcontroller, and a dynamic bias drive adjustment circuit block disposed in the housing and configured to receive at least one detected electrode voltage and to adjust a bias trigger signal from the electrode bias trigger circuit block based on the detected electrode voltage to create an adjusted bias trigger signal.
