Methods and apparatus are revealed for session initiation at a conference. In one respect, a method for communication between multiple parts is revealed. The method consists of generating, on a first device, a first transmission message for a second device. The method also includes receiving, on the first device,A second message to establish a conference. The second message includes a list of one or more competing codec capabilities supported by the second device. The list of one or more concurrent codec capabilities supported by the second device comprises an indication whether one or more usable resources for one or more concurrent occurrences of a listed first codec may instead be used for one or more concurrent occurrences of a Second codec listed.
