Various arrangements for maintaining standalone devices via satellite-based communication links are detailed here. A data stream from the satellite transponder can be monitored through a tuner to an identifier indicative of a standalone device. an identifier-bound update can be acquired from the satellite-transmitted transponder data stream. The purchased update can be stored at least until the standalone device communicates with the network-independent maintenance device. The standalone device can be paired communicatively with the system or device that received the satellite broadcast update. In response to having purchased the tag-bound update from the transponder data stream and the standalone device communicatingly paired with the system or device, the acquired update may be transmitted to the standalone device.
