an active grid system for a vehicle includes a plurality of active shutter blades each respectively rotatably coupled to a part of the frame. each blade includes a hollow body portion having an inner and outer wall portion extending between a first and second end. the blade also includes a first solid end cap attached to the first end and a second solid end cap attached to the second end of the hollow body part. The active shutter blade has reduced weight, increased torsion resistance and increased flexural stiffness compared to active shutter blades of the same shape and size and has a solid one-piece construction formed by the injection molding process. In addition, the use of extrusion or pultrusion to form the hollow body part reduces the distortion associated with the solid one-piece active shutter blades formed by the injection molding process.
