The present invention relates to a method for producing a film comprising microfibrillated cellulose, wherein the method comprises the steps of: providing a suspension comprising from 70 wt% to 100 wt% dry weight microfibrillated cellulose total, forming a fibrous web of said suspension, drying the web in a drying apparatus wherein the web is at least partially dried at a drying rate above 75 kg (h2o) / m² / h by the use of hot air for means of which a film is formed. The invention also relates to a film produced according to the method and to a paper or cardboard substrate comprising said film.
