Methods for archiving and reconstructing a microbiome are described. One method for archiving a microbiome may include collecting a sample including a microbial community that defines the microbiome. The method may also include expanding the microbial community in the sample and preserving the sample to provide a preserved sample. Packing the preserved sample to archive the microbiome may also be part of the microbiome archiving method.
