predictive model for estimating the proportions of sand, slime and clay in a soil sample based on near infrared spectroscopy (nirs) performed on soil samples. The soil texture prediction model is trained using reference nirs test data and collected soil sample spectra for which reference test data has been collected. Estimates produced by the model can be used to determine a variety of soil sample properties, such as hydrological properties and soil quality. Knowledge of these properties is useful to inform the decisions that agronomists, producers or farm managers make during the year. For example, agronomists use the properties determined to infer soil performance under any treatment or application, for example seed application, fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide.
