method and apparatus for extending battery life through adaptive control of regulators. A method and system for enhancing the efficiency of a battery powered power supply system is disclosed. more specifically, a method and system is provided for improving voltage regulation efficiency for a system in which the input voltage to be regulated may vary widely. In the disclosed techniques, the voltage supply that is used for the voltage regulator drive control circuitry is varied with respect to variations in input voltage. thus in one embodiment, the voltage supply that is used for the circuitry that drives a control transistor output terminal of the regulating circuitry may be varied with respect to variations in the input voltage. For example, an inverse relationship can be established between the input voltage level and the voltage level that is used for the gate drive circuitry that controls the gates of the regulator output transistors.
