The mounting portion accepts the developer cartridge to replace the developer consumed by the developer cartridge. the cap member closes an opening in the mounting portion when the developer cartridge is not inserted into the mounting portion. When the developer unit is initially constructed, printing is performed using the developer contained in the developer unit, the developer cartridge containing developer may be inserted into the developer unit, allowing the developer supply in the developer unit to be replenished.
