The solution relates to a reaction mixture for the easy, rapid and low-cost enzymatic determination of the amount of sarcosine in a sample of human urine, serum or plasma using automated photometric systems. The reaction mixture comprises a reagent R1 which is sodium chloride at a concentration of 100 to 200 mM, potassium chloride at a concentration of 30 to 80 mM, sodium phosphate at a concentration of 10 to 50 mM, urea at a concentration of 200 to 500 mM, creatinine at a concentration of 10 to 25 mM , bovine serum albumin at a concentration of 600 to 800 μM and sarcosine at a concentration of 10 to 100 μM and a reagent R2 which is formed by a peroxidase activity of 10 to 100 KU/l, a sarcosine oxidase activity of 2 to 10 KU/l, a phenol of a concentration of 1 to 5 mM and 4-amino-2,3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazolin-5-one dye of 0.1 to 0.2 mM and 3-(N-ethyl-3-methylaniline) propanesulfonic acid sodium salt at a concentration of 0.1 to 2.0 mM or 3,3'-diaminobenzidine at a concentration of 1 to 10 mM or o-enylenediamine at a concentration of 5 to 20 mM.
