The universal device for applying hypothermia to areas of especially the knee joint is a device composed of several parts. These are: the carrier system with fixation and connection elements, the primary cooling system, the secondary cooling system, the control and power system. The carrier system is a distributor element (1) fixed to the limb interconnected with at least one cooling means adjustably attached to the desired joint regions. The cooling means formed by the primary cooling system (11), the components of which are a contact and adjacent cooling element (10, 9) which is in contact with the Peltier cell (8), the hot side of which is cooled by a flow cooler (12) connecting the primary cooling a system (11) with the secondary cooling system (16) through which the coolant flows and it further flows, through the distributing element (1), into a tank (14) with a pump (15) located in the control box (27) with a supply source (26) and a control unit (28) for monitoring and controlling the temperature of the contact element (10) on the tissue being cooled. The device is particularly useful in health care as a rehabilitation aid. The device can also be used as a supportive rehabilitation aid for individual home care and is primarily intended for mobile patients.
