A consumption meter is disclosed, arranged to be able to wirelessly communicate using a first set of radio frequency bands comprising a HF band (6) and a first VHF/UHF band (8). The consumption meter (1) is arranged to use near field communication in the HF band (6) to transfer meter identification information from the consumption meter (1) to a mobile communication device (2) for registration of the consumption meter (1) with a meter reading system (3), and is arranged to use the first VHF/UHF band (8) to transfer meter consumption data from the consumption meter (1) to the meter reading system (3). Further, a method for registration and operation of a consumption meter is disclosed.
