The invention is related to the field of polarization-diffraction optical instrument-making, in particular, to a method for forming a polarization-diffraction solid-state optical element comprising the following steps: an isotropic thermoplastic varnish layer with a relief-structured surface in the form of at least two diffraction gratings or relief holograms with a pattern distribution of groove directions, depths and constants in said diffraction gratings or relief holograms is applied to a substrate; an intermediate solid-state isotropic amorphous layer that can follow the volume geometric profile and the shape of the layer with a relief-structured surface and can follow the predetermined pattern obtained in the layer with a relief-structured surface is applied to the above-said layer with a relief-structured surface; a layer of a liquid-crystal material in the isotropic state is applied to said intermediate solid-state amorphous layer, the layer of the LC material applied to the intermediate solid-state amorphous layer is transferred from the isotropic state to the mesomorphic state, wherein the intermediate solid-state amorphous layer is made so as to provide, in the layer of LC material in the mesomorphic state, a predetermined pattern of spatial distribution of optical anisotropy (optical axis directions and absorption and/or birefringence dichroism values) corresponding to the predetermined pattern of groove directions, depths and constants in said at least two diffraction gratings or relief holograms formed in the layer with a relief-structured surface; curing of the LC material layer is performed to produce a solid state, optically anisotropic layer with a predetermined pattern of optical anisotropy spatial distribution in accordance with the pattern-spatial distribution of groove directions, depths and constants on the relief-structured surface of the intermediate layer.
