The present invention refers to an ultra-fast scanning x-ray imaging device. The x-ray imaging device operates in frame output mode and includes an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (4) including the readout pixel array (2) and on the same ASIC (4) there is also provided digital control logic and sufficient digital memory (3) to accumulate digital output frames prior to output from the ASIC (4). In this way a number of advanced imaging functionalities are achieved directly on the ASIC (4) such as static frame modulation, dynamic frame modulation and time delay integration output. This leads to simpler system architecture and optimal imaging performance. Preferably the ASIC (4) is a CMOS. Preferably the detector is of the direct conversion type, such as CdTe or CdZnTe.
