The present invention discloses a method for the preparation of bimetallic copper and silver nanoparticles with a size of up to 100 nm from a metallic copper precursor formed by a mixture of copper compounds in different oxidation states. Said precursor is transformed into copper-silver nanoparticles of different morphologies of industrial interest by the reduction with hydrated hydrazine at 60°C. The reaction is performed under a bi-functional straight-chain binder containing an amino group and a carboxylic acid. Then, said precursor is heated of between 85°C to 100°C and reacted with AgNO3 previously dissolved in distilled water or dispersed in the reaction medium. The whole procedure is performed with mechanical agitation with a speed higher than 250rpm and in an inert atmosphere of nitrogen or argon. The separation of the silver-copper nanoparticles is performed by conventional methods. The corresponding characterization of the nanoparticles is developed by UV-Vis spectroscopy, tr ansmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
