The vertical solar cooling system operated by a lithium nitrate-ammonia mixture, is a continuous cooling system which operation is based on an absorption cycle operated by the lithium nitrate-ammonia mixture. The system may be operated either for freezing, preservation, purposes or for air conditioning spaces. The system mainly includes a vertical generator, a vertical absorber, a condenser, an evaporator, an economizer, an expansion valve and a pump. The heat supplied by the sun or any other heating source is supplied to the generator where the lithium nitrate-ammonia mixture is located. When the solution is heated, part of the ammonia is detached in the form of vapor and passed to the condenser where it is transformed into liquid by extracting the heat from a cooling fluid. In these conditions, the ammonia is passed through the expansion valve where it is expanded and the pressure and temperature reduced. The ammonia liquid-vapor mixture is introduced into the evaporator where it is evaporated by extracting the heat from a fluid, in order to produce the refrigerant effect. The ammonia in vapor phase is passed to the absorber where it is absorbed by the lithium nitrate-ammonia solution resulting from the generator, forming in this manner a lithium nitrate-ammonia solution rich in refrigerant, which is pumped to the generator where the cycle is started again. The system uses an economizer for preheating the solution that is flowed from the absorber to the generator while cooling the solution that is flowed from the generator to the absorber.
