The invention relates to a helical electrodynamic trap meant to be used in equipments for identifying and characterizing polluting agents in the atmosphere. According to the invention, the trap comprises two electrodes consisting of two parallel thread-shaped wires (1, 2) spatially arranged as a winding having a random number of pairs of turns along a cylindrical surface (3), or of two electrodes (10, 11) as parallel tapes arranged on a plane, in the shape of a rectangular helix, the wires being connected to a high-voltage low-frequency alternating current source (4, 13), the charged micro-particles (5) being maintained in suspension within a volume confined by a cylindrical surface (6), the stored micro-particles (5) being viewed by means of a laser beam (8) generated by a laser diode (9).
