The invention relates to a device meant for a universal lathe, in order to evaluate the influence exerted by the tool position on the accuracy parameters of the thread located on an external surface of revolution. According to the invention, the device has a parallelepipedal part (1) located in one of the four recesses of a tool-holder support (A) of a universal lathe and fastened by welding or by screws to a guideway (2) along which a sledge (3) provided with a dove-tail groove slides, by means of a screw-nut mechanism, this slide of the sledge (3) upon rotation of a screw (4) allowing the position of a screw-cutting tool tip (5) to change in the vertical plane in relation with the horizontal plane of the rotation axis of a main shaft.
