A vaginal oocyte retrieval needle (632) is disclosed comprising a first tubular (634) region in fluid communication with a second tubular region (636). The first tubular region (634) comprises a leading end (638) for insertion into a subject and the second tubular region (636) comprises a trailing end (640) for fluid communication with a means for receiving a fluid. The first tubular region (634) outer diameter and inner diameter is less than the respective outer and inner diameter of the second tubular region (636). The second tubular region (636) has a length (X) adapted to traverse a vagina to reach a tissue in which an oocyte is located. The first tubular region (634) has a length (Y) adapted to penetrate the tissue in order to reach the oocyte without the second tubular region (636) penetrating the tissue.
