An extender formulation for goat semen

The formulation produced is a refinement to the existing goat semen extender intended for artificial insemination. Goat sperm cell is characterized as unique to the other livestock sperm cells, in terms of its reaction to the eggyolk. Semen diluents used in processing commonly contain eggyolk as a protection against cold and freezing related damages in the sperm cells. This invention comprises buffer solution, non-penetrating cryoprotectant and penetrating cryoprotectant. The said non-penetrating cryoprotectant is a plant-based lecithin from soybean. Inclusion of the said lecithin improves the post-thaw motility of the spermatozoa, and enhances pH stability thereby increases storage period under refrigerated condition up to 110 hours. The formulation is in powdered form and packed in PET/PE foil material to protect its chemical content from environmental damages.
