The invention relates to a method for measuring a state of a metallurgical vessel (3) in a steel mill (1), comprising: providing the vessel (3) in an open position in the steelworks (1); Flying an unmanned aerial vehicle (12) with a laser scanner (14) attached thereto from a landing site (13) remote from the vessel (3) to a measuring position (Mi) within, above or obliquely above the vessel (3); and measuring a state of the vessel (3) with the aid of a laser measuring beam (15) which is emitted and received by the laser scanner (14) and scans at least part of the interior of the vessel (3). The invention further relates to a steelworks (1) for carrying out the method.
